- Keenan Hoyer set a huge Personal Best for the 10 km at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa of 54:32, and consequently punching his ticket to compete in Rome, Georgia at the Canada USA Junior Match in August.
- Johanna Flipsen demolished 2 Canadian records in 1 race at the Alberta Track and Field Championships in Sherwood Park in the mile and 3000 m while closely chasing 1984 Olympian Phil Vesty around the track.
- Your Coach Dave Keenan has been recommended as a Level 2 Track and Field Official.
- Sad news that our Marc Mundell made the IAAF 50 km standard, but Athletics South Africa imposed a stricter standard for him to achieve, which is impossible to attain now that the World Championships in London are less than a month away.
Lots of action for our club lately:
This picture is from Juarez, Mexico where Heartland’s Marc Mundell placed 41st in the 20 km walk.
A week later, after acclimatizing to the hot temperatures, in Monterrey, Mexico, Marc jumped up to 11thout of more than 40 international competitors, including many Olympians.
It was great to see Ben Thorne win the race, with Iñaki Gomez and Mat Bilodeau, along with juniors Marek Adamowicz and Caleb Chang competing for Canada.
Evan Dunfee won the 50 km walk.
Here’s a neat picture of our team after our Saturday walk and before our much deserved coffee break. This is the most we’ve had as a strictly Heartland outing.
It was really fun with the younger kids, walking to and playing at 2 parks en-route while the older “kids” walked down by the river. What an incredibly beautiful day, topping out at 21°C on April 2!!
Heartland Racewalk was awarded the 28th Annual Canada vs USA Junior Racewalks. Date of the Canada USA Junior match is August 7, 2015, at Carscadden Park in Fort Saskatchewan.

It was the debut event for Deanna!
Johanna Flipsen was awarded the 2015 Athletics Alberta Female Masters Athlete of the Year in a splashy ceremony at the Delta Hotel in Edmonton. An incredible achievement to be proud of.
The Juniors met at Coach Keenan’s home for a pre-race meal, talent show and athlete video review.
